At last, my quilt is done! It took a little over 4 hours to complete all the ties, and then I decided to stitch around the edges using different threads I’d used for the appliqué. I should have pinned the edges first, they’ve ended slightly crinkled…but for now it’ll do.
There was every intention to race through the knotting and finishing of the quilt today, however, I’m incubating a cold which is coming with a deep headache and associated apathy, so I’ve made a start on a row. I’ve also realised that I may have to rest the quilt on the table downstairs, ‘cos I can’t do it all on my knees!
All turned out…took a moment is evening to stitch the two sections of bump together, trim against the size of the quilt and turn out. I’m pleasantly surprised to find that so far, so good. Put a couple stitches in each corner to hold the bump to e back side of the quilt, shaken it out from each side it’s almost settled where it belongs. Next I need to decide whether to stitch the opening closed first, or put some of the ties in place, but that decision is for tomorrow.
Progress made today, the back is attached, corners mitred…then I came to a halt. I’ve worked out how I’m going to do my inner, though there needs be a seam, pondering whether it should be exactly in the middle, or if it can be lower down. Pleased with how it’s looking though 🙂
I had to clear a space big enough to work with…
A little planning today. Whilst taking a beat on putting together my quilt, I’m planning how to make a couple of pillowcases to match. I’m using an existing pillowcase as my template, and thinking about strips at one end of each to make them the right size, with the remnants of the plain cream and purple as the main top/bottom.
The final squares today, these and a couple more of my mother’s wedding fabric.
The embellishments are most definitely inspired by my doodling habits!
I’m thinking of using the fabric throw pattern from Merchant & Mills book to fix the top and bottom together, so there’ll be some of the bottom showing around the top. I bought a sheet a while back as the backing, but now I’m not so sure.
Two birthdays today, one I almost allowed to slip by! My good friend – a stonemason – has her birthday today. I rushed home and made a very quick and simple birthday tea, including a quick cake! Pretty cups and saucers and my Granny’s platter for sandwiches made for a lovely couple of hours.
When she had left I decided to tackle another couple of squares, and this time the tension behaved! Three more squares complete. I think about the same number left I’ve already planned, but think I’ll have to take a look at the overall quilt before deciding if it’s done.
